We are excited to announce that this year, Chabad Hebrew School of The Woodlands will be implementing the CAP IT!® Learn to Read Hebrew program.

We are confident that your child will enjoy every minute of it, and learn to read in record time. Our programs are multi-sensory, and based on the latest research on reading and child development. The CAP IT!® curriculum has many components.

The CAP IT!® Workbook as well as the Progress Chart will stay in the classroom, as your child progresses through the 44 lessons of the program. Our program teaches how to read through toys which we call Tactile Visual MnemonicsTM. These toys serve as memory aids, helping the student retain the sound. Your child will be handed these toys in the beginning of every lesson, and will bring these toys home one day at a time.

We urge you to arrange for a set place for these toys, in case your child will want to refer to them — or just play with them — later in the year. If your child misplaces a toy, no worries, it served its purpose. Please note that some of these toys may be a choking hazard for children under the age of 5, and therefore not appropriate for younger sibling.

A key component of CAP IT!® is the Power Cards. These 630 flash cards contain every single sound combination in the Hebrew language, with the English transliteration in the back of the card. They are also numbered and marked for each lesson. See page 2 for a complete understanding of our Power Cards.

The Power Cards will remain in your home, and it will be your job to practice and review the relevant cards with your child throughout the year. Your child’s teacher will notify you which cards you need to review. Once the program is completed, you will need to continue reviewing these cards with your child throughout the year. Your child’s reading success depends on it.
